VI.  TOPIC OF DISCUSSION

  •   Radio checks & Signal reports via repeaters
    •  Downlink variables
    • The path between the repeater and your station
    • Your transceiver, antenna system, location in repeater's footprint or service area
    • Ability to kerchunk does not imply repeater hears you well enough for QSO. Analyze repeater signal during "hang time".
    •  Repeaters tend to be balanced or receive better than they transmit. If you have issues hearing a repeater, it is safe to assume it can't hear you.  With its equipment (radio/antenna) and location it is much more likely your equipment is at fault.
    • Your transmissions must be 100% or you will mislead the requestor
    • If you don't have a clean path to the repeater, suggest an alternate system to the requestor
    •  Both parties learn how to change modes or channels
  • Honest critique of requester's signal
    • Consequences of dishonesty
    • Requester with poor signal has no motivation to improve.
    • Worse, requester won't have working comms when needed.
