V.  FEATURE PRODUCT(S)
  • Great opportunity to purchase a Baofeng, Raddiodity, UV-5RX3 for $39.99.  https://www.radioddity.com/collections/ ... kie-talkie
    • Review:
      • I've had two UV-5R3 radios from this company for over a year and use them during our walks and test them frequently to see if they work on several programmed frequencies (2m, 1.25m and 70cm).
      • They are just like the UV-5R (fit and finish/aesthetics) and all the accessories I have for the UV-5R have worked on these radios.  It is nice to mix and match antennas, connectors and batteries.
      • They programmed easily, although I have not recently done anything but clone the two once I found a good mix of frequencies.
      • I have not had any issues with either radio and for the money I rate this a 4.5 out 5.0 all things considered and being a Baofeng product; this is a good one.
      • The only drawback I have is that they do not come with a triband antenna or the programming cable (I'm not 100% sure about the cable).  There are two antennas provided, one for 2m VHF-70cm UHF and the second for 1.25m VHF.
      • I purchased the following triband antennas:
  • Ed Fong antenna group order to be placed before Field Day 2019, NLT 15 MAY.
  • .Sam's Club Duracell 12 volt deep cycle marine battery:  https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater
    • Not sure when this will end but I thought I'd pass it on to those who may be looking for something like this.

SCaLE 17x  -  Southern California Linux Expo
There were four ham radio related presentations on Sunday, 10March19.
All four can be viewed at:
   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2VHtwQW4qA8
If you are curious about high speed multimedia mesh networking, please watch the excellent presentation by Joe Ayers, AE6XE.  Mr. Ayers is one of the developers of the AREDN radio firmware.  His presentation starts at 5:02:30.

MeshNet
The K9LMR Riverside to Pleasants Peak link hardware has been relocated from the mobile mast (EDGAR) to a permanent fixture.  This move enables a full time connection to the AREDN network.  Along with Joe Ayers, AE6XE, I enjoyed chatting with key AREDN member, Don Hill, KE6BXT at the Linux Expo.
